As multifaceted as our trails.

Claudio Schnurrenberger

Co.Owner & Director of Shapes
Head of Construction, Project Manager & Trail Builder

Ever since I can remember, I’ve loved building things that you can ride, on a bike or snowboard. That’s why, after training as a landscape gardener and machinist, I gained a lot of experience in trail building in over seven years as a shaper and designer. Now I can realize my dream with Vast and build our own awesome trails! In addition, we can realize our shared vision on the mountain with a really great team.

Mountain biking has influenced my life since I was 8 years old and continues to do so every day. I rode cross country races from a young age and built trails in our forest. Since my studies as a business economist and tourism specialist, I have been able to gain valuable experience as a mountain bike race organizer and managing director at various companies, which I can now put to good use at Vast. Primarily, I make sure that the figures are correct and that nothing gets forgotten. But I also love accompanying a project all the way from analysis and conception to construction and successful opening. Of course, picking up a shovel and getting work done with a highly dedicated and passionate Team, too. And that’s exactly why I love being part of Vast so much..

Growing up on the Buchserberg in the Rhein Valley, mountain biking and nature were a big part of my life from a very early age. After my apprenticeship as a landscape gardener, I started building pump tracks in 2020, gaining my first experience with shaping. Now working with Vast almost exclusively on the mountain and being able to combine my hobby with my job means a lot to me. Due to different trail styles, locations or climatic conditions, the work is very varied, which makes every project unique for me.

I come from Slovakia, where I grew up and spent my youth outside and in the mountains. While studying, I worked in Bike Park Kálnica for multiple years. After high school, the decision to move to Switzerland came. I decided to bend over backwards to find and get a job I love and will genuinely enjoy every day. It worked out at Vast and seems to be a perfect fit. I am absolutely stoked to have the opportunity to learn and grow with the team. Building trails is not just a job, it is expanding creativity, bringing the vision to real life and enjoying the craft on a daily basis.

I grew up in Scotland, where I have been riding, racing, and building my whole life. I studied Mountain Bike sports performance at college and learned carpentry after graduation. I started trail building in 2015 at several local trails and became a professional trail builder in 2018 when I moved to Whistler to work for Joyride Bike Parks. Now I live in Fiesch, Wallis.

Mountain bike trail building is more than just a job for me; it is my passion. And I am proud to share this passion with Vast.

Since I built our first trail with friends in 2002, shaping has become a big hobby for me. To this day, I spend a lot of my free time building and maintaining the NT Dirt Jumps in Glattpark. After my apprenticeship as a landscape gardener and gaining a few years of professional experience, I have been building pump tracks and trails professionally since 2017. The dream of turning this hobby into a profession still fills me with great satisfaction today!

Since a young age Mountain Biking has fascinated me with all its facets.. After my first rides on the GurtenTrail, I came in contact with trail building. For some years now, I have been taking care of its maintenance with friends. As a trained CAD designer (specialized in landscape architecture), I have been able to gain and develop a lot of experience in planning and implementation of construction projects over the last few years. With Vast, I can combine my passion for mountain biking with my profession and drive forward the realization of sustainable and fun trails.

I discovered my passion for the outdoors at an early age, although I was initially particularly drawn to winter. I originally come from snowboarding, where I have been traveling and producing films for more than 15 years. While building countless jumps and other features out of snow, I developed a feel for shapes, which I can now transfer and expand when building mountain bike trails at Vast. I only got into biking about six years ago. I was hooked after the very first run. Since then, biking has been my go-to activity when there is no snow. I love exploring the countless single trails of the Upper Valais and am also always up for a high alpine sufferfest. Thanks to the opportunity to work part-time, I can spend more time with my daughter and introduce her to my passions.

Ever since I started maintaining and optimising my home trails in 2020, I’ve been hooked on trail building. After positive feedback from other mountain bikers, I increasingly toyed with the idea of pursuing my passion professionally. When Vast Trails advertised a position as a trail builder at the beginning of 2024, I took the opportunity to enter into professional trail building. I can contribute my training and experience as a landscape gardener to trail construction in various areas.

I’ve been a big fan of outdoor sports for as long as I can remember; in my case skiing and mountain biking. Constantly learning new things, but also building the necessary infrastructure, has always fascinated me. I spent a lot of time on the downhill track on the Haldi in Schattdorf while I was still at school, maintaining and building new features. During my training as a heating fitter, I realized that I also wanted to pursue my passions professionally. I was able to turn my hobbies into a career and now work as a trail builder in summer and as a Park Bully driver in winter. Both professions are very similar: they require teamwork, precise work and creative thinking in order to get the most out of the ride.

Building trails has always been my dream. Even as a teenager, I spent at least as much time shoveling jumps in my dirt park as I did riding my mountain bikes. After studying business administration at the University of St. Gallen, I wanted to get straight into the field of professional trail building and, as a career changer, I spent a decade gaining experience in the construction and planning of mountain bike infrastructures. With Vast, I can give free rein to my visions in an inspiring team. In my home of choice in Valais, I love to ride my enduro bike on the single trails and am always looking for inspiration for our daily work.

Mountain biking has been a part of my life for over 25 years. Through my professional career, my modest racing careers in cross country and downhill racing, the training I have completed and my work as an expert in Y+S training, I have developed a holistic understanding of this sport, which I am able to apply and expand on a daily basis in exciting projects. I see myself as a creative doer, a prudent linker of theory and practice and can always be found at the interface between planning and construction. I am never afraid to go into detail, but I always have the big picture in mind.

I was able to live out my passion for shaping in winter by building fun parks in various winter destinations. Colleagues gave me the opportunity to help build mountain bike trails. That’s how I discovered the fun of cycling and the diversity of trails. I really appreciate working in and with nature. At Vast, I particularly like the collegial environment and the fact that I can give free rein to my creativity at work. Of course, the after work ride and the after work beer are also a must!

Work culture

We are all passionate mountain bikers with many years of experience and love to be where mountain biking is happening. Mountain biking gives us access to the landscape, nature and space, to valleys and mountains, but also to different communities and cultures. We share our passion as a team, we find inspiration for our work and are constantly learning. Direct communication, a flat hierarchy, a highly weighted collective mindset, a differentiated understanding of form and design and, above all, fun are central to our entrepreneurial activities. We pursue limited growth and want to remain agile, flexible and independent.

Be it in the office, in meetings or on site visits, during shoots, during breaks, while planning or building: We discuss, we create, we test and we reflect – always in dialog and full of enthusiasm!
