Vast & Furious
A trail packed with highlights. Alpine character, breathtaking scenery and a unique mix of jump, flow and single trail sections make the Vast & Furious an experience that will last in the memories.
Top of Goms
The holiday destination Bellwald stands for “Top of Goms”. This “Top” is located at 2562 m above sea level: the Furggulti mountain station. From there you can enjoy a breathtaking view over the whole of Goms as far as the Matterhorn, Weisshorn and other majestic peaks. With the construction of the new Vast & Furious Trail, the aim was to bring this “Top of Goms feeling” to life on a mountain bike trail. The new mountain bike trail, which is suitable for all abilities, leads from the Furggulti mountain station down to the Fleschen middle station, from where numerous other trails are already waiting to be played with.
Staging the landscape
The trail circles around gently various large boulders at the start and leads over several large granite slabs. It has been designed to make the most of the views and panorama. True to its name, numerous creative features such as jumps of all shapes and sizes, bends and waves set the scene for the trail adventure in this unique landscape. Good photo spots are guaranteed! Smaller rest areas have been integrated at regular intervals along the 4 km trail to provide space for breaks and views for days.
“With the Vast & Furious Trail, another milestone of “Vision 2024″ has been reached. As the initiator of Bike Park Bellwald, it is wonderful to see how the project, which was launched in 2005, continues to develop with high quality! Not only our guests, but also us locals are very happy about this new offer on the mountain, which is increasingly turning Bellwald into a summer tourist destination.”
Trail design follows topography
In order to build in a resource- and environmentally friendly way at this altitude without good access options, it is important to be able to read the terrain. Based on the topography, altitude and soil quality, it is crucial to understand which type of trail integrates best into the environment. If the mountain is very contoured and rocky at the start, this is also reflected in a playful and varied trail with changing terrain. The terrain in the flat and earthier middle section is suitable for large and gentle jumps, before the trail becomes narrower, rockier and therefore somewhat more challenging in the final section due to the steeper topography.
Longest continuous mountain bike descent in Valais in sight
The Vast & Furious Trail is a further step towards one of the longest mountain bike descents in Valais. With its Vision 2024, the Bellwald Bike Park is pursuing a continuous trail from Furggulti (2560 m above sea level) to Fiesch (1000 m above sea level) that is as suitable as possible for any type of rider and skills. The last section from Bellwald to Fiesch is currently being planned. This means over 1500 meters of descent in one go and more than 15 kilometers of specific bike trails!
Two aspects are particularly challenging when building at (sub-)alpine altitude: On the one hand, the logistics, because distances are long and there is no access road. The mountain is only accessible by chairlift; good organization is crucial here! On the other hand, the vegetation at this altitude is sparse. Due to the short growing season, it takes a long time for it to recover. It is important to intervene carefully here and recultivate everything on the go as you build the trail.
