As a substantial part of the redesign of the recreational area “Schmiedhofpark” in Ebikon, we were assigned to create a Pump Track together with the local Ebikon-Rontal Pump Track association on a a planimetry of 3000m2. The planning process was extremely inspiring. Wishes and ideas were exchanged with the experienced club members and an individual facility was designed according to their visions and dreams.. The result is a Pump Track with a combinable jump line, moderate track and progressive track. Who wouldn’t dream of having such a track just in the middle of your town?

The whole is more than the sum of its parts

Conceptually the layout convinces with the characteristics of the three different laps. The implemented design clearly delineates the laps, but invites for combinations and transitions, especially where all three laps come together to create the epi-center of the Track. This means that all three laps can be combined and completed in one go. When visitor frequencies go up the users separate on each of the three Tracks.

Clear concept, clear focus

The laps were designed as follows:

Moderate Track (120m)
A moderate, beginner- and child-friendly Pump Track allows a low-threshold approach to the facility.

Progressive Track (120m)
A pump track with a medium level of difficulty and playful features. It challenges and promotes riding technique and enables a seamless transition to the next level.

Jump Line (90m)
A somewhat more challenging jump line with five consecutive jump combos invites even experts to linger and ensures that the facility remains exciting for a long time. The jump line can be looped endlessly with the fly-out re-entry feature out of the curve.

Joint design development

Our credo is to develop designs together with the users. The board of the Ebikon/Rontal Pump Track association consists of experienced mountain bikers and BMX riders with decades of experience. Our suggestions were challenged by them, their needs and ideas were taken on board and the design was developed together to the final state.

“The highlight for me is the Jump Line. We placed particular emphasis on ensuring that it can be ridden with as little pushing as possible. At the same time, you can also achieve more airtime with more pushing. For the jumps, we paid attention to a good rhythm and lots of variety. Another special feature is that you can enter the line from various points on the Pump Track and also from the start ramp. This allows for countless lines. You can even ride several laps in one go if you have the power.”

Down to the last detail

There is not much left to remind of the monotonous lawns of the former football pitch. Thanks to the clear focus to landscaping and in particular to the club’s own know-how, which was brought in by Sämi Mattmann from the gardening company “Müller-Gärtner Eden’s”, even more emphasis was placed on the most biodiverse greening possible. Instead of sports turf, there is now a colorful habitat where plants and insects of all kinds find their place.
